Everything You Want to Know About Animal Chiropractic—All in One Place
-
Animal chiropractic is a gentle, hands-on technique that restores proper joint motion—especially in the spine—so the nervous system can function at its best. When misalignments (called subluxations) occur, they can cause discomfort, stiffness, or behavioral changes. Chiropractic helps animals move more freely, recover from stress, and live with less pain.
-
Yes. When performed by a properly trained and certified professional like Dr. Callie Gant (AVCA Certified), chiropractic care is extremely safe. Dr. Gant uses species-appropriate techniques tailored to your animal’s age, size, and temperament.
-
You might notice:
Horses: uneven gait, resistance under saddle, trouble with leads, behavioral changes
Dogs: stiffness, limping, reluctance to jump or climb stairs, slowing down unexpectedly
Livestock: lameness, asymmetrical movement, poor weight gain, off behavior
Any sudden change in how your animal moves, behaves, or performs could be a sign that chiropractic care would help.

-
Yes—South Carolina requires a veterinarian’s approval before chiropractic care can begin. If your vet is already on board, great! If not, we can help facilitate the referral process.
-
Dr. Gant begins with a thorough evaluation: posture, movement, gait, spinal alignment, and neurologic reflexes. She’ll explain what she finds and perform gentle adjustments where needed. Visits are done in a calm, familiar space—whether that’s your barn, yard, or living room.
-
It depends on the species, age, lifestyle, and the nature of their condition.
Performance horses may need care every few weeks
Senior dogs may benefit from monthly support
Healthy animals may just need occasional tune-ups
Dr. Gant will work with you to develop a plan that fits your animal’s needs and your goals.

Have your animal clean and ready in a quiet, safe area:
Horses/livestock: haltered and dry, in a flat area with good footing
Dogs: on leash or in a calm space they know
We’ll guide you through anything else ahead of time.
-
Absolutely. Chiropractic is especially beneficial for senior pets and aging livestock, helping them maintain comfort and mobility without relying solely on medication.
-
While it’s not a substitute for emergency veterinary care, chiropractic can help with recovery from past injuries, musculoskeletal imbalances, or chronic pain. Dr. Gant will always refer back to your vet if she feels a different treatment is needed.
-
First get a vet referral and then fill out the new patient form. Once that’s completed, we will reach out and set up your first appointment.
